Finally, we are able to spend hours outdoors. From sunrise to sunset, us Kiwi’s long to be in the fresh air, enjoying the precious sunshine and warmth with friends and family. BBQs cranking, beach swims and lazy days is exactly what Summer is made of.
Now that Summer is here, let’s make sure we make the very most of this season before it runs away on us for another 8 months (arghhh). Some people feel as though they have to do extravagant things in order to make the most of the warmer weather, however, we will share with you a few things that you can do to make the most of this Summer doing simple everyday things.
Watch a Sunrise
One of the most wonderful ways to begin your day is to watch a sunrise. It’s not something that we do every day and we damn well ain’t doing it in Winter so put it on your to do list for this sunny season. Yes, the sun rises early and you may have to make special arrangements to actually be on time to see this spectacular show of nature, but it’s well worth it. Check out when the sun rises in your area. Grab a coffee (or your favorite morning beverage), drag the whole family out of bed, and make sure you’ve got a camera or your smartphone. Make a morning of it and view it from a cool lookout or beautiful Instagram worthy beach. Be ready to experience a magnificent art show in the sky and end it with a brisk beach walk. Can’t think of a better way to start the day!
Capture your moments
Every photo you take communicates something about a moment in time – a brief slice of time of where you were, who you were with, and what you were doing. It’s always good to remember the special moments we make each day. How much better when we can have that memory in a photo or video and be able to share that with friends and family as well! Both our families live away and overseas, so our best form of contact and connection with them is through social media. All the nana’s love to see what our kiddies have been up to (as for us, they couldn’t care less lol). What sucks though is when you want to share something instantly or Facetime and you get #FORO (fear of running out OF DATA). To keep you connected this summer, Vodafone has the new Vodafone Pass that lets you enjoy endless data on Video, Music, Social or Chat apps. You also get to choose if you want it for 1, 7, 28 days or ongoing monthly. So no more data worries this Summer! Keep reading – we may just be able to hook you up with your own Vodafone Pass!
Go to an Outdoor Concert or Event
We are so lucky in NZ that we have an amazing range of outdoor events and concerts to choose from. There’s nothing better than chilling in the warm sun and jamming to some tunes or eating fresh Summer food. If you’re lucky you can even find a few free events happening in your own town or city. Check out pages like Eventfinder or Eventbrite that list a load of events happening all year round. We always make it a priority to check out at least one music event and one foodie event every season. Ok we lied, we go to about three food events hahaha.
Be a tourist in your own hometown
Let’s face it, we live day to day viewing our surroundings with our eyes half shut. This Summer, we encourage you to take the eyes of a tourist and look at your town and the towns surrounding you, in a fresh way. We often pass by all these awesome local spots without actually going and experiencing them for ourselves. Do a bit of research on what may be available in the area. Pretend you’re a tourist and google the top 10 family things to do in your town or city. This year we discovered the most beautiful local bush trek that ended at an amazing waterfall, and we also found out that right behind our local tennis court was this huge yoga and health retreat (we thought it was just a bunch of trees and a hill). So get out and explore the wonders that are in your own backyard.
Host a dinner party or bbq
Food is the best way to bring family and friends together. This season you need to make it a priority to host a potluck bring a plate dinner party. What better excuse to have a catch up with everyone all in the same place! Yes Christmas and New Year just happened, but you want to make the most of the warm weather and continue on the good summer vibes. Plus it’s always a bonus to get to eat food made by other people and if you’re lucky you might even get some leftovers.
If you want you to get in on the fun, comment below and tell us what festivals and beaches you’re hitting up over the holiday season and go in the draw to win 1 of 2 6 month Vodafone Social Passes!
