When we were transitioning to a whole food diet the first change we made was switching from using processed sugars to using natural sugars. We are so lucky that nature provides us with a delicious array of natural alternatives that are not only healthier for us but they still make our clean treats taste just as sweet and decadent.
One of our favourite natural sweeteners is Californian Medjool dates. As a matter of fact, when you look through our cookbook, you will notice that almost all our clean sweet treats are made with them. They are supreme quality and juicy. Super versatile for both sweet and savoury options and best of all they are full of vitamins and minerals. If you’re based in Auckland, head into your local Huckleberry store this month (February) to sample some delicious Californian Medjool Dates. Scroll down for the dates (Hah that’s a pun right there).
To show you just how easy it is to include Californian Medjool dates into your diet we are sharing a super simple no-bake Superfood slice recipe. It has a delicious balance of sweetness from the dates and cranberries, paired with chia seeds, desiccated coconut and sunflower seeds for extra nutrients. This recipe is gluten-free, refined sugar-free and nut free making it perfect for the kiddies school lunches.
